Knee injuries are a great risk for federal workers

Many people think that just because they don’t have a physically demanding job that they aren’t at risk of an injury. Unfortunately, that’s not correct. Even people who have seemingly safe jobs can still suffer an injury while they work.

The knees, in particular, are one area of the body that can suffer serious problems even in workers who have fairly non-physical jobs. Because of this it’s imperative that workers take steps to protect their knees. Their supervisors should ensure that they are following proper protocol and using the correct equipment for the job.

How can federal workers protect their knees?

One of the most important things that you can do to protect your knees is to avoid keeping your knees in a bent position for long periods of time. When possible, you should use extended tools to complete jobs. If you have to bend down or work on your knees, take some time periodically to stand up and stretch out your knees. If necessary, consider a footstool under your desk.

How can a knee injury impact your life?

A knee injury can have many impacts on a person’s life. This includes being unable to work, needing extensive medical care, and losing their income. It can also make the individual’s life more difficult because they might not be able to enjoy the things they normally would.

Any federal worker who’s injured on the job should learn their rights under their ERISA disability plan so that they are aware of what they are due and how to assert those rights to fair compensation and benefits. Protecting your interests where your benefits are concerned is just part of protecting your family’s financial future.
